Railway Station retrofitting in Pécs

Nov 23, 2023

Celebrating 125 Years of History & Innovation at Pécs Railway Station!

As we commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Pecs Railway Station, a historic and iconic building of national importance, officially opened in 1898. It’s a moment to reflect on its legacy and the strides made in modernizing this architectural gem.

The challenge for Hajós Építész Iroda architects and @Ventosus engineering team was to preserve the station’s heritage while incorporating cutting-edge heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. Our team navigated this task meticulously, ensuring minimal disruption to the building’s integrity.

The retrofit included state-of-the-art solutions: @Viessmann condensing boilers in a cascade system for heating demands, @Groupe Airwell compact liquid coolers for cooling, @IMI Hydronic Engineering control valves for precise hydronic balancing and employing @Grundfos e-pumps for energy-efficiency.

Maintaining homage to the original building design, @Rehau floor heating and @Groupe Airwell fan-coil systems were integrated for optimal traveller’s comfort in all seasons. @Cairox Belgium air handling units were strategically employed to ensure superior air quality throughout the station’s interior spaces.

This project stands as a testament to the harmonious convergence of history and innovation. This was only possible by the collaborative efforts of the Architects Hajós Építész Iroda, @Viessmann, @Groupe Airwell, @IMI Hydronic Engineering, @Grundfos, @Rehau, @Cairox Belgium and @Ventosus in preserving the heritage of Pecs Railway Station while ushering the station into a sustainable future.

For more information about the history of this iconic building there is an interesting article written by the Architect, Tibor Hajós from Hajós Építész Iroda and published in the Hungarian journal Építész Forum (Google Translate does a great job translating it into English).
