Making Waves for a Cleaner Future: The “Ventosus PET Pirates”

On September 22nd, the dedicated team of environmental champions, the “Ventosus PET Pirates”, embarked on a mission along the picturesque Tisza River, just outside Szeged, Hungary. Armed with determination and a commitment to cleaner waters, these volunteers navigated a 5 km stretch in canoes, ready to tackle the pressing issue of river pollution head-on.

The mission was planned and organised by @Túrabarátok, who provided a comprehensive safety briefing and ever watchful eye during the day from the safety boat.

Amidst the sweltering heat, the Team demonstrated unwavering dedication by tirelessly collecting plastic and glass bottles and other waste, along with unexpected items like a swivel chair, tires, and various other debris. Bags upon bags of waste were collected for recycling or disposal.

Their efforts didn’t stop at mere collection. Several tons of waste, a testament to their hard work, were canoed to a designated collection point for final sorting. From there, the carefully organised materials were directed to the local recycling centre, marking a significant step towards a more sustainable future for our community.

Beyond the tangible impact on the environment, the @Ventosus Team epitomise the power of community-driven action. Their dedication echoes far beyond the banks of the Tisza River, fostering a sense of responsibility and environmental consciousness within our local community.

After their commendable efforts, a well-deserved break awaited the Team. Gathering at the well-known Fisherman’s (Kiskőrössy Halászcsárda) restaurant, they shared stories of their noble quest, celebrating both their proud and peculiar finds. This camaraderie not only strengthened their bond as a team but also served as an inspiration for others to join in the cause.
